The Bright Ideas to Build Resilience Project supported community development in the Hawkesbury. This project was funded and supported by Nepean Blue Mountains Primary Health Network (NBMPHN), as part of the Australian Government’s response to the 2019/2020 bushfires. Wentworth Healthcare is the provider of the NBMPHN.

The aim of the project was to build a more resilient community, that is self-supporting in day to day community life. The project had a focus on resilience and preparation for the inevitable future disasters, whilst supporting residents who had experienced the accumulated stress of recent multiple disasters.

These were projects that helped support the community to feel connected, that they belong and are involved. These were projects organised by sporting, hobby, social and community groups.

Bright Ideas to Build Resilience Showcase Film

The project culminated with a showcase film which featured the 14 community groups. These were varied community groups such as, community social groups, special interest groups, arts and culture groups, sporting clubs and incorporated associations. These groups were all from the Hawkesbury and sought grant funding or sponsorship to make it happen.

These are inspirational stories of place-based, locally led, community initiatives. The film is a resource for the Hawkesbury community to inspire and support other community groups and residents. The film showcases the benefits and outcomes for these groups, and also the broader community. It demonstrates how communities can connect and build resilience in the every day, and not just for the next flood, fire or natural disaster.
