The Draft Policy is aimed at Council following procurement processes and practices that achieve an optimum balance between cost-effectiveness and other social, economic and environmental objectives, within the applicable legislative framework. The Draft Policy supports Council’s commitment to promote and encourage the use of local suppliers as well as promote sustainable and socially responsible procurement principles. As more environmentally sustainable and cost-effective products become available, Council will also lead by example by investing in environmentally sustainable products and processes. It is hoped that the implementation of the Procurement Policy has the potential to support Council in reducing its environmental footprint.
