The Library, Museum and Gallery are working on refining their Mission and Vision statements.
A Mission Statement is a written declaration of an organisation's reason for existing and its core purpose.
Properly crafted mission statements:
- Serve as filters to separate what is important from what is not,
- Clearly state which markets (who) will be served and how, and
- Communicate a sense of intended direction to the entire organisation.
- Are short and simple enough to remember (just a few minutes to memorize).
A mission is different from a vision in that the former is the cause and the latter is the effect; a mission is something to be accomplished whereas a vision is something to be pursued.
A Vision Statement (Desired End-State) is a one-sentence statement describing the clear and inspirational long-term desired change resulting from an organisation’s work.
To assist in crafting these statements, could you please answer the following questions?
