Consultation has concluded

Hawkesbury City Council is committed to working towards greater waste reduction targets by increasing recycling rates and diverting waste from landfill. As part of this, Council is developing an Integrated Waste Management Strategy to progress long-term plans for the Hawkesbury City Waste Management Facility as well as consider future options for the Hawkesbury’s kerbside waste and recycling collections.

Waste management is a vital public health and environmental service that affects every member of our community, the Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor BarryCalvert said.

“Right across Australia, councils are striving to deliver sustainable, reliable and affordable waste services whilst dealing with the challenge of growing populations, increasing waste generation per household, and changing recycling markets,” Mayor Calvert said.

“This is no easy task. Landfill space in Sydney is filling up fast, we need to find alternatives to ensure council waste services remain affordable, reliable and sustainable well into the future,” he said.

“Council is developing a Waste Strategy to help us achieve greater waste reductions in the longer term.

“We are hoping to identify our community’s aspirations, priorities and preferences for the future of waste management in the Hawkesbury.

“We would also like to gain a better understanding of community views and concerns in relation to potential changes in waste services, facilities and technologies.”

This online survey about waste management aims to help Council understand our community’s priorities, preferences and needs regarding waste services and reducing waste.

The survey results will help us to shape the Strategy and plan future actions that meet community expectations and help to protect our environment.
