Hawkesbury City Council plans to upgrade the playground at Jack Gow Memorial Park, McGraths Hill and is seeking input from the community to inform the works.

Jack Gow Memorial Park is a small 0.11 ha local park located between Andrew Thompson Drive and Scarvell Avenue. It currently contains an aged double swing set and multi play unit with a bin and seat nearby.

Please help Council plan the new play space by providing information on how you currently use the park and how you might like to use it in future. The survey form can be found below and can be filled out until Friday 22 September 2023.

It is proposed to replace the existing playground with a new play space for children 1-12 years old. It will include shade, seats, bin, new signage, and a pathway connection from the footpath. The softfall will be a combination of mulch with rubber in key wear areas.

The playground will be designed to:

  • improve access and circulation into and throughout the park.
  • improve site identification and wayfinding using Council’s new suite of signage.
  • improve the provision of shade, reducing user’s exposure to UV radiation and contributing to a cooler environment.
  • improve image and character of the park.
  • improve amenity, safety, and equity.
  • minimise future maintenance burden.
  • minimise potential impact on neighbouring residents.

    Total number of surveys received 142.


    Majority of people currently use the play equipment or use the open grass area to kick a ball/play sports. Ideas to improve the playspace included (but not limited to) support to upgrade the play equipment, making it larger and more exciting, use of bright colours, provide more shade, and include bins, bubblers, seating and a new sign. 82% of survey responses supported the current location for the upgraded playspace.


    Overall we received a large range of great play ideas, these ideas will be incorporated into the final design, the designs will look to balance both the communities input and the budget available for the upgrade.


    Next steps: Council Officers will be developing designs incorporating your feedback over the coming 3 months and we will present the final design by early 2024. Construction is planned to commence early to mid-2024.
